Paid Internship Opportunity

I’ve created an exciting opportunity for a motivated local individual to join my constituency office team as a paid intern for 12 months.

Location: Whitehaven Constituency Office
Duration: 12 months
Hours: Flexible (2.5 – 5 days per week)
Salary: £28,000 FTE

This role offers a unique chance to gain hands-on experience at the heart of parliamentary constituency work. It is particularly well suited to someone at an early stage in their career who is interested in public service, politics, or communications, and is looking to develop practical skills in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hands on support for a wide range of communications activity, particularly digital content and physical delivery of printed correspondence
  • Attending local events to support the MP and wider team
  • Providing administrative support to the constituency team
  • Handling initial enquiries from constituents via phone and e-mail
  • Logging casework using internal systems

Digital & Content Focus

I am especially keen to hear from candidates who are confident digital natives, with strong content creation skills.

You will play a key role in helping to showcase my work locally by:

  • Creating engaging video content for social media
  • Capturing and editing footage from events and visits
  • Helping to communicate key messages in a clear, accessible way

About You

  • A hard worker who is eager to take responsibility for important work  
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable engaging with members of the public
  • Proactive, reliable, and able to work as part of a small team
  • Digitally confident, with experience in video creation and editing
  • Full UK driving licence with access to a car
