Cumberland Council has outlined its plans to invest nearly £100 million in local highway improvements during the course of this Parliament.
The Labour Government gave the council a significant boost to its funding for highway repairs this year and every subsequent year of this Parliament – following representations from me as your local MP – meaning more roads can be repaired or resurfaced, more footpaths restored, more road safety schemes installed, more street lighting and bridges renewed.
Dozens of local roads reported to me have been included in the programme following representations by me and your local Labour councillors to the council and an assessment of their condition by highway engineers. These roads will either be reconstructed, resurfaced, or receive substantive repairs to significantly improve their condition.
Thousands of potholes will also be repaired – report a pothole to the council here
