Expand school places in Whitehaven and Workington

Whitehaven and Workington academies are nearly full.

Cumbria Education Trust, which runs both schools, have put in a bid to the government for capital investment for a dedicated sixth form across both sites to allow more 16-18 year olds to study there and also free up space for 11-16 year olds, meaning more parents would be able to send their children to these schools.

The Department for Education has underspent its budget for 2023-24 by at least £830 million. I’m calling on the Secretary of State to quickly release funds from the underspend to fund the new sixth form.
