Regeneration of Whitehaven

Since the election last year I’ve been chairing the Whitehaven Town Centre Board, alongside Cllr Emma Williamson of Cumberland Council, and with the participation of Cllr Joseph Ghayouba, our Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, David Allen, Whitehaven Town Council, Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, BEC, and a range of local business and community representatives.

We’ve been driving forward the production of a new Town Centre Masterplan and this has reached a new stage with the launch of a process by Cumberland Council to appoint a contractor to produce that plan, who will be in place by May.

Alongside this, I am working with the council, leaders of our nuclear industry and the Government to secure the funding we need to deliver this plan, which is where other plans have failed in the past!
