We’ve done it! We’ve secured £20 million long-term investment – £2 million per year over ten years – for Mirehouse, Kells, Woodhouse, Greenbank and Sandwith through Labour’s Pride in Place programme.

We’ve spoken to hundreds of local people over the last year and I know how angry you feel that it seems like your community has been forgotten. I’m not blind to it and I share your anger. And I’ve been working for months to do something about it.

This investment will make a real difference. It will:
- Support projects that create jobs and opportunities locally
- Improve community facilities, sports clubs, youth services and green spaces
- Strengthen the organisations and groups that bring our community together

I fought hard in Parliament to make sure Whitehaven was included in this programme, and I’m proud to be delivering for our area.
But this is just the beginning. The real question now is: how should this money be spent to make the biggest impact for you, your family, and your neighbours?

A new Neighbourhood Board has now been recruited from the community to lead the development of a Neighbourhood Plan to lay out what the money will be spent on and the Board will then be responsible for overseeing that delivery.

Not everyone has had their say yet so you’ve got more opportunities this summer to share your ideas and to give your feedback on the priorities already identified by other residents who’ve completed the survey below or attended one of our engagement events.
Saturday 15th August – Mirehouse & Woodhouse
Members of the Board will be at Mirehouse AFC’s U8s fundraiser and also at the Hub2U bus at Woodhouse Play Park, 11am-2pm that day.
Thursday 20th August, 6-7pm – Haig Pit Bakehouse, Kells
We’re holding a feedback event on the survey responses received so far, giving residents an insight into the priorities shared by your neighbours and whether these are the right ones. Come along and have your say!
You can also still complete our survey below – all responses will be anonymised and shared with the Neighbourhood Board
